Horse: Louis - January 22nd, 2010
Louis is now in week 2 of his training schedule and is coming on in leaps and bounds (sometimes quite literally). His possible new owner to be has been up every night and is doing really well in a keen and eager way. She was even convinnced to put some white cladding on the wall (much to her disgust) and did well.
This week he has been out hacking – with a good long canter up the fell (a first for him), has been lunged several times (with marked improvement) and has been improving his flatwork and has just embarked on jumping!
Watch out to see how he gets on next week!

Horse: Louis - January 12th, 2010
Louis is a 4 year old thoroughbred Chestnut. He is lovely, well mannered and very placid (except when he sees Brandy – they’re not best friends!).
Today is the beginning of his 3 week intensive training programme to get him to a good riding standard. Due to ice, snow and time constraints he has spentr much of the last 2 weeks in his box and has not been ridden much in the last 6 weeks .. so here goes!
We started his regime with some quiet lunging up in the school, he was very calm and well behaved on the way up there which was an extremely positive start. He definitely needs improvement on the lunging however as he was definitely lively, but, as it was his first time out he can be excused and we’ll just have to see what tomorrow brings!

Horse: Murphy - Diamond Discovery - January 6th, 2010
Murphy has been up and out early every morning this week, this morning he was almost out at work in the dark. He thinks this is a fab start to the day (but was not so impressed this morning when he realised that it meant having his breakfast late).
He is working well and the long Winter nights mean that our little stallion has calmed down dramatically and is an absolute pleasure to work with. He is much straighter now in both walk and trot than he was and his canter is coming along brilliantly.
He had a small mishap on Sunday when he tripped over and ended up with a bust lip but being the little trooper he is he was straight back up. The same can’t quite be said for Matthew who promptly went straight over his ears (unsurprisingly) and heard his leg (he thinks he might have been stood on), his shoulder (he fell off onto the fence) and his finger (no idea how that one happened) and was walking like John Wayne for a good 24 hrs – not good.
Lets see if he can continue with his early starts.

Horse: Marylegs - Rainstown Josie - January 6th, 2010
So far this week Marylegs has been lunged and ridden every day in a bid to compete in British Novice and Newcomers successfully. She is doing well and just needs to RELAX.
She hasn’t been put off by the ice covered hillside, the diggers at work and the frosty schooland has been trooping on. She is a bit on the cross side that she hasn’t been turned out and will not stop wanting to fight with Hero (her box neighbour).
Cantering has been a no go area this week as the school is a bit to hard at the moment (roll on Spring) but her trotting was lovely.

Check out the Blue sky!

Horse: Hero - Fizzy Charlie - January 6th, 2010
This week Hero has returned to the world of work and he is soooo pleased! Despite the mountainous – snow covered – ice pitted-crampon needing adventure that is known as walking to the school he has been very good.
He is being lulled in gently but has been ridden for about 20 mins every day since Sunday. Phrases used to describe his return have included … ‘on his toes’, ‘dancing like a muppet’, ‘full of it’ and ‘raring to go’ however, there have been no sudden excitable rampages or fits of anger just a little ’selective hearing’ – not quite listening when he’s meant to be, but, after all he is a Man!

I CAN stand still!

I can sort of listen to your leg!

Horse: Murphy - Diamond Discovery - January 1st, 2010
This week has been horrendous weather, freezing cold and the snowy yard became a skating rink. Exercise therefore has been minimal and so Murphy has had to practice his yoga instead!

Horse: Marylegs - Rainstown Josie - January 1st, 2010
Last week we have had way too much snow for my (and Marylegs’ liking) on Tuesday after 2 days inside (which is just boring) the ground was crunchy enough for them to have a wander outside for a couple of hours.
Wrapped up toasty warm (with their jama’s under their jackets) Marylegs was asked to venture for a frolic in the eskimo way. but she thought better of it. Being the big wuss that she sometimes pretends she can be she was not for setting foot in the snow and i struggled to get her out of her bed!
However, after a good 5 seconds of encouragement (which is about how long it usually takes to encourage her to do anything she doesn’t want to) out we went. Once she got over the initial shock she loved it and couldn’t wait to get out the next day!

Horse: The Yard - January 1st, 2010
Last week as i’m sure was obvious we had to say goodbye to the Turkeys!
I am proud to say that the lovingly nurtured, well fed, healthy specimens managed to make a final weight of 14 lbs (thats 4hrs and 40 mins cooking time if anyone is interested) and they looked cracking.
They were definitely the tastiest turkeys ever and the only dissappointment was that someone tried to sell one in the pub for £15 despite them having a value of £50!
