Wednesday was a momentous day for our stallion Bob he had his first clear round in the British show jumping Discovery Class. It took place early morning at Church Farm in Ormskirk a fantastic, friendly venue. He took on the jumps like a trooper and made his clear look easy jumping well above the poles.

He was well behaved and despite the baking heat and ridiculous amount of Horse Flies tormenting them did exceptionally well. The next step is to speed up and get into the rosettes!

Stay tuned for the (somewhat unfortunately amateur) video …

Yesterday, keeping on with Bob’ s ‘Back in action’ training schedule he was up in the school practising both his techniques on the lunge and ridden. He did really well was calm, collected and going good. So he was asked to jump a couple of fillers. He was a little bouncy and first (to say the least) but soon found his stride and took them on like a man! Have alook at the video below!

To start with he didn’t go far before he was brought back to his box in disgrace – and to get a bridle (rather than a headcollar) but he improved the second time!

He has now progressed to making it all the way to the school and being worked while he’s in there! His leg looks way better and he is actually enjoying himself!

The wound is definitely getting smaller and it can not be hurting him due to the way he is bouncing around his box. Bob is struggling to understand the concept of deep litter beds and therefore likes to (with both legs) dig it up which is by no means helpful!

Watch this space as Bob is sure to soon be back in work!

Unfortunately Bob’s training regime has slid to a nasty halt. After a fun day playing in the stallion paddock he managed to cut his front leg. The poor boy was finding it very difficult to move out of the field (where he was as far away from the gate as is possible) and the Vet had to be called.

In the rapidly growing dark, inspection lights were brought out, a full first aid kit and all manners of treats to coerce him inside, but he was having none of it, the poor boy was in shock and was obviously too scared to put his foot down.

Once the Vet arrived he gave him some pain killer and 4 of us with the use of a nifty (strung round his bum) lunge rope managed to get him from the field into his box where he was treated to the biggest bed EVER!

Up to date he has been given the very best TLC and is feeling much better.

Today Bob is recovering from yesterday’s mild trauma. Up in the school (all gates shut and safety precautions taken may i add) Bob in his own stubborn – i can’t be bothered to listen right now – way decided to unseat his rider (Matthew) in a most phenomenal fashion.

Doing a simple 20 m circle in a slow and controlled trot he decided he had quite simply had enough of these capers and would rear dramatically with his feet at least 15 ft in the air (i am only slightly prone to exaggeration). Both horse and rider fell swiftly to the ground, pausing only to create a spectacular commando roll, off they both set galloping round the school.

Thankfully Bob seemed to have frightened himself more than Matthew and within minutes he was back up there. From that moment the lesson got far better Bob was attentive and well behaved for the remainder of his training session.
